MEDICAL TAPING IN BRUNSSUM

At Fysio in Balance in Brunssum, we use medical taping as a possible supplement to physiotherapy treatment. The elastic tape can provide support during movement. We assess whether taping is suitable for your complaints during the examination.

What is medical taping?

Medical taping, also known as kinesiology taping, is a technique in which a physiotherapist applies elastic tape to the skin. The tape moves with your body, allowing you to keep moving the treated area.

Depending on the aim, we may use the tape to guide a movement or help you become more aware of how you move. Medical taping is usually combined with exercises, advice or other parts of your treatment.

When can medical taping be used?

Your physiotherapist may consider medical taping for:

  • Muscle and joint problems.

  • Sports injuries.

  • Symptoms during certain movements or activities.

  • Gradually increasing activities during recovery.

Taping is not useful for every condition. We discuss what we aim to achieve and assess whether it adds value for you.

What does the treatment involve?

We begin with a discussion and assessment of your symptoms. We look at the movements that cause difficulty and what you would like to be able to do again.

If medical taping appears suitable, your physiotherapist applies the tape to clean, dry skin. The placement, direction and tension of the tape depend on the aim. We then check how it feels and whether movement remains comfortable.

You will receive instructions on wearing and removing the tape. Please tell us beforehand if you have sensitive skin or have previously reacted to adhesive dressings or tape.

What can you expect from medical taping?

Some people find that tape provides greater comfort or a feeling of support during movement. The effect varies from person to person and between conditions. Medical taping does not guarantee faster recovery.

We therefore assess together whether the tape makes a noticeable difference during your activities. Exercises and gradually increasing activity at an appropriate pace remain important parts of treatment.

Can you move and shower with the tape on?

You can usually move and shower while wearing the tape. Afterwards, gently pat it dry. How long you can wear it depends on your skin’s reaction, the application and your physiotherapist’s advice.

If you develop itching, redness, blisters or other irritation, carefully remove the tape. Contact us if the symptoms persist.
